Paolo Conte (January 6, 1937) is a celebrated Italian singer, pianist, and composer known for his gravelly voice and poetic lyrics. The son of a notary and hailing from a family of landowners, Conte began studying piano at age four alongside his brother Giorgio. A multi-instrumentalist, he mastered the vibraphone and kazoo while cultivating a deep passion for jazz. Conte initially collaborated with his brother in songwriting before crafting his own compositions. His solo career launched with a self-titled debut album in 1974. His song “Un Gelato al Limone” (1979) had garnered attention but his international breakthrough came in 1988 with the hit single “Max”, a poignant tribute to a late friend.
