Cindy & Bert were among the most popular German Schlager duos of the 1970s. The duo consisted of Cindy Berger (born Jutta Gusenburger on January 26, 1948, in Völklingen, Saarland) and Norbert Maria Berger (born September 12, 1945, also in Völklingen and deceased on July 14, 2012, in Düsseldorf). The pair married in 1967. One of their best-known hits was “Ich Komm’ Bald Wieder,” released in 1973. The ballad became a major success in German-speaking Europe and the Netherlands. The single reached No. 10 in Germany, No. 17 in Austria, and No. 15 in the Dutch Top 40, remaining six weeks on the Dutch charts. The song appeared on their successful album “Zwei Menschen und ein Weg”. Cindy & Bert enjoyed their greatest popularity between 1972 and 1975 with hits including “Immer wieder sonntags”, “Spaniens Gitarren”, “Aber am Abend da spielt der Zigeuner”, “Wenn die Rosen erblühen in Malaga” and “Hallo, Herr Nachbar.” Their biggest chart success was “Immer wieder sonntags” which reached No. 3 in Germany, No. 6 in Switzerland, No. 8 in the Netherlands, and No. 20 in Austria in 1973. They also represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 with “Die Sommermelodie.” After divorcing in 1988, Cindy Berger launched a solo career, while Norbert Berger focused more on production work. This recording is from the Dutch tv program “Zevensprong” and broadcast on September 1, 1973.
