Chaz Jankel is an English musician, singer, and songwriter, best known for his work as a member of the influential new wave band Ian Dury and the Blockheads (watch the clips on our channel). He also enjoyed success as a solo artist, particularly with his 1981 hit "Ai No Corrida," a funky, jazz-infused track that became an international sensation. Written and produced by Jankel, the song reached No. 17 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 1 on the US Dance Chart, cementing his place in the dance and funk music scenes. "Ai No Corrida" was later covered by Quincy Jones in 1981, becoming a UK chart hit for him. The song has also been covered by The Nylons. In 1982, Jankel reached No. 1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart with his triple A-side “Glad to Know You” / “3,000,000 Synths” / “Ai No Corrida”, and his single “Number One” went to No. 1 in the clubs in France. This performance was recorded by the TROS TV program Starclub on February 23, 1981.
